Kate Clark
nursing care and personal assistance towards the end of life

About Me
I grew up in the Morayshire countryside near Elgin. In my mid-thirties, I changed course from engineering to nursing, inspired to support people to die at home by my experiences while my Uncle was dying.
Gaining 20 years nursing experience, initially at Nairn Community Hospital and Dr Grays Hospital, Elgin and since then as a community nurse for both NHS and Marie Curie, I now work privately in-person, by telephone and online. In this way I can build meaningful relationships, working one-to one with people in the last stage of life, and those close to them, to make the most of their time together.
I still remember how it felt, before my nursing days, to be caring for someone who is dying with no caring experience, so am able to empathise with the many people in that situation.
My voluntary work is an important part of my life, through which I have picked up much knowledge and many insights I love to share. Whilst working in Nairn I volunteered for Nairn Citizens Advice Bureau, developing a project “Taking Control: Illness and Dying” to help people who wanted to get organised with practical and legal preparations for the end of their life.
Through founding the charity Pushing Up The Daisies in 2016 I have learned a lot about providing information and support to people in the days immediately after death. I also co-founded the charity The Journey Home to offer practical and emotional support to people who are dying.
I believe that human beings have a spiritual element in our nature which it is important to nourish, especially in the final stage of life. However, I do not impose my beliefs on anyone who seeks my help. I am here for everyone, with any or no religious or spiritual belief.
